In the 21 years we've been in business, we've completed hundreds of design and development projects for our own clients, and we've also partnered with many design and creative firms around the country on projects where they needed technical help. Through this extensive experience we've had the opportunity to see what works and what doesn't work in graphic design projects.

Based on this experience, we've learned that the building blocks of a good design are:

  1. A solid understanding of the problem to be solved.
  2. Skill in the tools and techniques needed for the solution.
  3. Lack of personal ego.
  4. Ability to design for a solution rather than personal artistic expression.

At Objective we work with clients to ensure that the business objectives are well defined and clear before any design work begins. We consult with our clients to plan an appropriate graphic design process for the available budget, and work to design, test, and iterate until the final design product is both beautiful and effective.

Graphic Design Process

Depending on the type of graphic design services needed, our process may vary. In general, however, the following steps encompass the general design process.

  • Initial Discovery: Time spent planning is time well spent. As we begin the project we'll spend adequate time making sure our team understands you, your customers, and your business objectives so that all deliverables are on-target.
  • Lo-fi Design: Creating some low-fidelity sketches and designs gives us a chance to try out ideas at a low cost. The design process is rarely perfectly linear, but instead involves some exploration. By keeping initial concepts to lo-fi techniques, this stage of the project can be very efficient.
  • Hi-fi Design: Once conceptual directions have been solidified, our designers spend the time to create high-fidelity designs, where every pixel matters.
  • User Testing: Depending on your budget and timeline this step might be fairly simplistic or it might be more thorough. Whenever possible we prefer to involve real customers in the design process.
  • Iteration: Throughout the graphic design process, we'll iterate as often as budget and timeline allows so that the final product meets your needs.
